are you considering a custom portrait session? you've come to the right place! i hope i have made this an informative place to give you an idea about how my sessions work, what to wear and just what to expect out of your session. my sessions are relaxed and low-key, allowing you and your family to be themselves and showcase their personalities. i don't pose as much as i encourage natural interactions to happen. sessions average approximately an hour.
all portrait sessions are done on-location and outdoors, with the exception of newborn sessions. while we are at the mercy of mother nature, we also have endless possibilities for your portrait session! portraits are scheduled generally may - october. seasonally the best time for a session is in the hour or two before dusk, but i recognize not everyone has that availability, so we can often come up with the best solution for a time for your shoot prior to that day.
i do not book portrait sessions on sundays and have limited saturday availability during wedding season (may-sep).
my portrait sessions start at $350. this includes the $100 session fee and $250 product credit for you to use to purchase items once your session is online. i ask that this be paid prior to your session to reserve your time. this includes my time on the day of your session and the many hours i take after your session editing and fine tuning your images. you will end up with 50-60 final images to choose from once i am done with the editing process. i then place these images in an online password protected gallery for you to view and make purchase choices from there. images are online for 30 days only (a fee will be charged to re-upload galleries past the 30 day mark). minimum orders for prints and products are $200 and all product orders will be completed and on their way to you within 2 weeks.
what should i do to prepare for my session?
think about your goals and desires from your shoot. what are you planning to do with the images? is there a special wall you would love a large portrait to hang on? these kinds of questions help me to determine how best to achieve those goals. if you have an idea in your mind, please let me know. i will then let you know how best to achieve it. often people see a certain image on my website that they see themselves in and while i can't copy something exactly, it helps me to know what you have in mind. we can then plan a location, time of day, etc. for your custom session.
what should we wear?
people often stress out about clothing choices and i really don't want you to. these it supposed to be a fun experience and i want everyone to be comfortable. a good place to start is to pick 1-2 colors you may like to use. then build your wardrobe around those and complimenting colors. for our family photos i chose orange and brown. i then went into everyone's closet and found something in this color range.
not everyone has to wear the same color and it still works. i love color and mixing and matching things to see what works. one year i did purple, gray and navy blue. the choices are endless really. feel free to bring changes of clothing as well. we don't always have access to a restroom, but many people just change in their cars just fine.
my list of no-no's is small, but i do have a few. printed t-shirts with large logos/graphics are distracting and will date themselves fairly quickly. sleeveless shirts i would also have to say to stay away from as well as white sport socks. i have photographed some very well dressed folks only to see a blinding white sock jump out when they sit down. yikes. just little things to think about.
